She's here and she's perfect! Little Lucy was everything a photographer could ask for and more!

She was asleep when I got there...

Then she woke up and stayed that way for the whole rest of the session.

This is her contemplative look...

She was graceful...

She was serious...

She was alert! Check out that eye contact!

She was frilly...

Yet, strong...(btw - she's only 6 days old!) This one caught me off guard. You know what most newborns do when you put them on their tummy? They try to suffocate themselves by planting their face directly into the cushy blanket. Not Lucy, she struck this pose and held it for what seemed like a very long time...enough time for me to take 4 frames of her doing it!

And by the end, she was sleepy again. Hopefully, she took a nice long nap after I left.

Five hours in a room with 100 or so professional photographers with one of the best baby photographer’s of our time sharing her secrets to a great baby plan…HEAVEN! I spent my Friday evening at the Bellies & Babies Tour with Sandy (Sam) Puc’. This was one of the greatest seminars I've been to in a while.

For those of you who are not photographers, or those photographers who do not share the absolute passion and love for the field that I do, this may seem an extreme statement. But for the handful of you that share my passion for photography and have been to a similar conference you know that you leave the program with a regenerated drive, a desire to try most if not all the ideas you were shown, and simply feel the need to go shoot.

For those of you who get the chance to see Sandy Puc’… her show is worth the ticket price and more, she offers great ideas, shares her trials and “what not to do” stories and walks the audience through a successful baby plan. She will be returning on tour next year with a maternity plan, then a child plan, and the following year with a family plan.

Liv Tyler's Sister!

O.k., so, she's not really Liv Tyler's sister...but, she totally could be...wouldn't you agree?

How cute is 11 year old Katie? We are working on headshots for her since she will be auditioning for several plays with the Indianapolis Repertory Theatre in the fall.

I had such a great time with Katie, her cousin and her mom! We did the session on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art (one of my favorite spots!). I really love the vintage feel to these images.

Holiday Sessions Booking Up!

It's hard to believe, but, I am already starting to schedule sessions for holiday family portraits! The end of September and all of October are prime dates for outdoor family sessions and these dates do tend to fill up quickly. I'd like to offer these spots to my existing clients first, so, I'm letting you know in advance, that you may want to schedule your annual holiday portrait session now. I am running the above add in August's addition of Indy's Child magazine and expect to get a flood of bookings from that. So, schedule now and don't miss out. Another Sneak Peek

This little guy was all smiles when I first arrived. I told mom we should get started right away so we could take advantage of his good mood (those of us who have babies know how quickly it can change). As soon as I got my camera out, he became very serious and concerned...he was studying me! I would put my camera down and talk to him and then he would smile. So, for this first shot, I sat my camera on the floor, peeked up over it to chat with him and then just pushed the shutter button repeatedly. I got some really cute expressions!

I love the joy in their expressions here!

Smash the Cake Session

Baylie turned one and we celebrated it in style with her very own "Smash the Cake" session. She didn't really "get into it" right away. Needed a little help from big brother! She was very exited once she figured out it was o.k. to get messy.

it was fun while it lasted...all good things must come to an end.

but, cleaning up was just as much fun...I loved giving my babies baths in the sink!

Email is working!

Finally, after three days of working on getting my email back up...it is fixed. I had to bite the bullet and pay a Microsoft specialist to work on it. It was very cool though, they were able to do it by "sharing my computer". So, I granted them access to view my desktop and share controls. Then they fixed everything without even being physically present. I don't feel so bad about working on it three days now since it took the pros and hour and a half to figure out what the problem was. I still don't know exactly what happend...just glad I can send messages! Thanks for your patience with me while we worked this bug out.

Email Update

I'm still not able to send emails. I have literally been working the past couple of days trying to resolve the situation. I am calling in the experts today and hopefully they can figure it out. Having a baby changes everything!

No kidding! Here's an excerpt from an article I was reading this evening and wanted to share with you.

"Oh, how children change the landscape of marriage. Is it the first night that one of you pretends to be asleep so the other one has to get up with the baby? Does it happen when sleep is chosen over sex more times than you'd care to admitt? How about when the conversations come down to the color of baby's bodily emissions or the quest for identifying various substances on mom's shoulder? Is it - yikes - when husband and wife begin calling each other Mom and Dad?"

"Sleep becomes the most precious commodity in the house when you have one or more small children. Lack of it causes you to morph into a hateful, baggy-eyed version of your former self. Once, during this stage, my husband took a nap without asking and I wouldn't wash his boxers for months! I zealously monitored which of us got more sleep and made threats to the nursery monitor whenever all it's lights lit up like an air traffic control tower."

"Given all this, I was baffled by the fact that my husband actually drew a smiley face on his calendar on the date of my six week check-up. How could he be attracted to someone with leaky breasts, a stomach the consistency of Jell-O and mood swings that rivaled turnovers in a pro basketball game?"

"I felt exhausted, frumpy and pulled apart in a thousand directions. No matter how I tried, I couldn't turn that insidious kind of tired know as "mommy tired" into an aphrodisiac. Given the choice between sex and sleep, I, like many moms, chose (or wanted to choose) sleep every time."

"I could no longer recall normal. Normal is just a setting on the washing machine."

Even though my babies are now 2 and 4, I was so grateful to read this and know that I am not alone. I still prefer sleep and can't recall what my husband and I did when we didn't have kids. How about you? I know there are some moms reading this who are in the thick of the sleep deprivation...how are you handling it? And all of you old pros...care to share a funny story or word of encouragement with the rest of us?

I just realized that though I am receiving my email messages, my replies to those messages are not going out. I got a couple of panicky calls from brides about making sure I had gotten their messages and checked to see why they hadn't received my responses. Sure enough, I have 38 messages in my outbox. I'm not sure why this is happening...but, just wanted to let you know and apologize if you've been feeling neglected. Basically, all replies I have sent since Monday are still sitting in the outbox.

My Second Shot at Triplets!

Aren't they beautiful? This was shot in my parents back yard over the 4th of July weekend. This is their second set of triplets since they've lived here.

They are used to seeing people and are not really phased. They let me get within about 10 feet of them. Ofcourse, they were stomping their little feet the whole time. Just their way of warning me!

I love this image...this one was very curious and would follow me wherever I went. And when I hid behind this tree...he (or she) came and peeked around at me!

Catching Up!

I have so much to blog about and have been falling behind, so I'm gonna make this a multi-topic post.

1. My work is on the cover of July's issue of Indy's Child magazine!

2. I am doing the "Bellies & Babies" Maternity expo in September and want to have some new images to display there. I am looking for about 5 pregnant women to model for me. There would be no charge for the session and the images will be available to you at a discount if you want to purchase them. I am looking for ladies who are up for having a fun, adventurous session...some partial or full nudity may be involved! Email me if you are interested.

3. I am moving my business out of our home and into it's own space! I will have my office, meeting space and gallery at this new location! This space will be available to meet with potential clients and to do in person ordering appointments. I have been getting requests to do this more and more and I am exited about helping my clients figure out how to order and display their images in their home.

That's all for now...but, I will have more about the space in the coming days. I'll try to post a few pictures too!

The Gerber Baby?

Look at this beautiful baby boy. Doesn't he remind you of the gerber baby? He has the most gorgeous blue eyes and the poutiest lips I've ever seen. I just love everything about little Ben. He is six months old here and you'd never guess by the looks of those legs that he was born premature! I had such a great time getting to know his mommy and daddy. I'll bet they didn't think I was able to get any good pictures based on Ben's grumpy mood that day (bad tooth day:)but, rest assured, there are many more where these came from.

Some women love being pregnant and feel very beautiful. Others struggle through difficult pregnancies. Either way, this experience will end and it won't come again...at least not in this exact way.

A Change of Pace

I have to tell ya...as much as I love photographing babies and children...it is so nice to have a subject that follows direction every once in awhile.

This was a shoot for the Zeta Alpha sorority/fraternity. They are making a recruting video to use for all their chapters nationwide and asked me to shoot a cover for a digital magazine that will be a part of that video.

BTW-Isn't she gorgeous? She's a Zeta alum and a Colt's cheerleader! And it turns out, her boyfriend is from my hometown!

Another Great Session

I just love this family. We had a session scheduled for Saturday morning, but due to the storm had to reschedule. I still went over and had coffee and hung out with them. Since I have photographed them 5 times now over the last couple of years...I feel like they are good friends.

A Few of my Kiddos

I have been taking pictures like crazy. Now, I just need to actually print some of them. I had a party a few days ago and realised I have no pictures of my kids displayed in our home. I just have folders and folders stored on the computer and external hard drives. My goal is to print some samples of the new canvas gallery wraps I am offering with my kids pictures. Then I'll be killing two birds with one stone. Enjoy these fun spring images.

Maternity Session

I am so thrilled to show you these images. I feel really good about my maternity session w/ Jenn and Joacim. I enjoyed chatting with them about how they met, their wedding in St. Lucias and how they found their current baby, Murphey. What a sweet dog. They actually allowed him onto the bed at my request and boy was he proud! Here are a few images for a sneak peek. Enjoy!

They said not to ask them to be serious...but, I think they do it beautifully. However, these moments were few.

Matilda Jane

I have recently discovered Matilda Jane Clothing Company . A lady based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana designs the outrageously cute clothing for girls and it has taken off! Everything she makes seems to sell out over night.

This weekend, she ran a sale on some of last seasons leftovers at a discounted rate. The sale started at 10:00 am and lasted til 3:30. I am ashamed to admitt that I spent the whole day calling and calling and calling...but, never got through. What a waste...well, it wouldn't have been if I had gotten a hold of one of the much sought after knot dresses (like the one Mary is wearing in the picture above).

Which brings me to the rest of the story. My friend Tammy's sister Angie's husband Matt does some design work for the MJC...so, she has a ton of the clothes. She brought some of the clothes to Tammy's this week and we dressed up our girls and had a photo shoot. Pretty darn cute! Here's some more from that session...

My First CD Cover

I spent the weekend in my hometown photographing the cover for my cousin's two new gospel music albums. We had so much fun searching for locations in a very small town...we laughed so hard and had a great time. We did three different sessions...one casual, one more formal and one traditional. The value of a great photographer goes beyond just being able to snap a picture...you need someone who can "create" a beautiful image.I'll give someone a free session if they can list everything I've done to enhance this image. Miss Fiona. I met Fiona with her grandma at the library this past winter. I gave grandma my card and was delighted when her daughter, Megan, emailed me about doing a session. Though these are not the only images that I like from the session...these are some of my favorites. I'll share more when I get a chance.

Just My Kids!

It has been so great getting outside with the kids. I feel like I haven't taken any pictures of them lately. Probably because it has been so dreary and dark...not good photography light! I find myself grabbing for my camera left and right these days. They just play outside for hours and hours.

Mary has been asking me to "pretty up" her hair. Each day she has a different idea about how she wants me to style it. She is at such a fun age. William is such a little sweet heart. He is all boy and wears us out most days.

I just found my new favorite clothing company! I went to a Layers Tee-Party hosted by one of my friends last night. I am thrilled w/ their line. Everything was so cute and stylish...yet, very mature and modest.

I sometimes feel like I'm in between categories. I'm not yet ready for the "women's" section...but, the stuff in the "juniors" doesn't fit me well. I want something that is stylish and hip but, that fits my mommy-of-two body.

Well, I found it! All of their shirts have a little extra length, so that your stuff isn't hangin out when you bend over. And, check out the wide-strap cami...made w/ modesty in mind. The top comes up higher and almost clings to your chest so your not giving everyone a sneak peek when you lean forward. I just love these clothes.

Here's the latest from the Phillips family. We spent the afternoon at the IMA (one of my favorite places to do outdoor sessions). It was still a little cool...but, the kids warmed up quickly in the bright sun. We had a great time, but, I think the kiddos were pretty exhausted before and even more so after. They were troopers...especially Audrey who was almost asleep when they arrived!

Meet the Moffets

I met Jenn & Jackson in the nursing mothers room at church. I knew when I saw the two of them together that I wanted to photograph them. Now, months later, I finally got the chance and the results are stunning! I love these photographs. I seriously couldn't decide which ones to post here.

I also got to know a little about Jenn. She and I share a passion for natural childbirth. She had Jackson at the 38th street birth center and had a wonderful experience. It was great to meet another mom with similar beliefs about childbearing and parenting.

I just got an email from DJ saying that they were dying to see some of their wedding images. I had told them they would be up on Monday! Sorry guys. I guess they've been checking everyday!

The problem is that I have only gotten through one memory card and there are already so many good ones! I usually do a post from the whole wedding...but, I still have about 8gb's more to download. Don't worry, I'll post more as I get through them.

Bottom line, your images are amazing! I am impressed myself and I took them! How could they not be though...did you guys see the one of Sharron in the mirror? Check out those abs!

Out of the mouths of babes!

O.k...it's late and I am worn out from working on my taxes all day. However, I just had to share this conversation I had w/ my 3 1/2 year old tonight at bedtime. She was obviously very tired...but, was protesting going to sleep. I asked her if she was mad. She said yes...but, not at me. She was mad at William (her 1 1/2 year old brother). I asked why (assuming the answer would be for the many times he had hit, scratched and/or pulled her hair today). Instead she said she was mad at him for calling her Minny (he can't say Mary).

I kinda giggled and started to explain to her how he was just learning to talk and he couldn't say some words very well. I even shared with her a few things she used to mispronounce when she was his age...which she thoroughly enjoyed. At the end of the conversation, I was feeling pretty good about my parenting skills and how well I had handled the situation.

So, I said to her..."The next time William calls you Minny, can you take it easy on him?".

She paused and said...."Ummmm...maybe when I'm 5".

Which, by the way, is also when she's going to get a pet rabbit, guinea pig or rat(depending on the day), give her teeth to the tooth fairy and start shaving her legs like mommy!

Hope this brings a smile to your face...it certainly did mine.

Meet Abby

I am on my way out the door...but, I just couldn't resist posting this beautiful little girl. Jodi & Todd McClure welcomed their second child, Abigail Faith. The session this morning went absolutely perfectly. She slept like a little angel! Except when mommy put her cold hands on her! Stay tuned...more to come from this sweet pea.

Meet my new intern, Nick Nebesny. He was born in Indianapolis,but grew up Parke County, IN. He is a senior at Franklin College and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. This upcoming May he will be receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Communications with a minor in Studio Art. He is currently interning with me for his spring semester as my photography assistant. Nick enjoys traveling, listening to music, playing guitar, spending time with family and friends, and has a strong interest in art and photography.

I just love this family! You'll probably recognize them as I have posted them before and they are all over my website! I have had the pleasure of photographing their story since pregnancy and each shoot gets better and better. This is why I love the "Baby's First Year" deal. I am really getting to know them, their likes, their personalities, etc...which allows me to create images that reflect who they are! BTW-in case you can't tell, they are absolutely head over hills for Miss Piper Mae! Looking forward to an outdoor session in the coming months!

I've been playing around with some textures in my images. Can't decide if I like it or if I'm even using them right? I would love to hear from you! Here he is...the man of the hour...Clair...the only reason the rest of the bunch exists! It was his 80th birthday and the whole family gathered to celebrate. Their were people there from Florida, Wisconsin and New York. It was great to witness the reunions...I'm told the whole family hasn't been together like this in some time. I loved being a part of this day. Everywhere I looked there were beautiful moments just waiting to be captured!

O.k...you have to know the story behind this image. I was told by mom that she cannot keep clothes on these two! In fact, before their naptime I heard mention of duct tape and thought maybe they were going to cover their mouths!! When I asked what it was for, I was told that they have to tape their diapers so they can't take them off! So, it was no surprise that after a day of being dressed in the most beautiful (but I imagine uncomfortable) dresses, they were thrilled to be naked again!.

o.k....don't be jealous...we are in Florida!!!!

We decided to join my cousin and her family at their condo in Destin. And, if that wasn't good enough, my mom offered to keep William! So, it's just Mary and I and we are lovin it. It is so nice spending time with her alone. She loves all the attention. She also loves the beach.

It's sunny and 65 here...not warm enough to swim...but, definitely better than Indiana weather. We'll be back Friday. I'll post lots of pictures then.

I am so exited to share a few pictures from a session I did earlier today. I was priveleged to photograph these beautiful baby boys...Tod, Max & Jack. They were such troopers! We never got them all to sleep at the same time (unless you count the fact that they were all sound asleep as we were walking out the door :)...but, it didn't matter. The images are just stunning. BTW - there are many, many more great ones...but, I am making myself stop and go to bed. I'll post more later! Hope you guys like them.
